Lula Is South America’s Most Popular President as Rivals Fade

Brazil’s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is riding high as the most popular major president in South America thanks to a boost from Donald Trump and support for his efforts to fight inequality with higher taxes on the rich.

The leftist leader’s approval rating hovered near 51% in October, six points higher than when it reached the low-point of his presidency in March, according to LatAm Pulse, a survey conducted by AtlasIntel for Bloomberg News and published Friday.

His disapproval held steady at 48%, down more than five points over the same period.
