Pecans Are Latest Trade Focus as China Probes US, Mexico Exports

Pecans have become the latest focus of global trade tensions, with China opening a probe into shipments of the nut from the US and Mexico.

The Ministry of Commerce said preliminary evidence indicates the US and Mexico have boosted pecan sales to China at below-market prices, damaging its domestic industry. The investigation comes after American pecans were already hit by 10% tariffs in March, as China retaliated against President Donald Trump’s levies.

The probe is the latest sign that Beijing is using agriculture in its trade fight with Washington, adding another potential threat to American farmers.
