Policy Groups Urge Caution in Changing Tech Liability Shield

More than two dozen Washington policy groups outlined principles they said lawmakers must consider if they pursue policies that would limit the liability protections now offered to internet platforms such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Facebook Inc.

They released a letter as lawmakers express growing skepticism about the so-called tech liability shield, which social media companies and other technology firms prize because it means they can’t be sued over content that third parties produce.
