President Donald Trump is expected to meet Pakistan’s army chief for talks as the US considers supporting Israeli airstrikes on Iran, a country with a cooperative and complex relationship with the government in Islamabad.

The meeting between Trump and Pakistan’s Asim Munir is scheduled for 1 p.m. Washington time Wednesday in the White House Cabinet Room, according to the president’s daily public schedule.

As the leader of the military, Munir is widely seen as the most powerful person in Pakistan, wielding the final word on critical matters from foreign policy to internal politics and the economy.
