US Renews Africa Trade Program Though Trump Tariffs Remain

The US renewed a trade preference program with African nations for one year though the step has little immediate impact because of global tariffs President Donald Trump imposed.

The extension was included in a federal funding package the US House passed on Tuesday to end a partial government shutdown. Trump signed the legislation later on Tuesday.

The trade program could take on new importance once the Supreme Court rules on a challenge to Trump’s global tariffs, a decision that could come as soon as Feb. 20.
