US to Impose 10% Tariff on Nicaraguan Goods Starting in 2027

The Trump administration will impose a 10% tariff on imports from Nicaragua beginning in 2027, after finding that alleged human rights abuses in the Central American country “restrict US commerce.”

The duties will phase in over two years, with the 10% rate taking effect on Jan. 1, 2027, then increasing to 15% at the start of 2028, the Office of the US Trade Representative announced Wednesday. The levies will stack on an existing 18% baseline tariff on Nicaraguan goods that President Donald Trump imposed earlier this year.
