Volatility Slows IPOs But No Cause for Panic, NYSE’s Martin Says

The US tariff war has spurred a surge in trading volatility and delayed initial public offerings, but shouldn’t keep investors out of the market, said NYSE Group President Lynn Martin.

In April, after President Donald Trump increased tariffs on countries around the world, nearly triple the usual amount of shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange on two separate days, Martin said Thursday at the 2025 Forbes Iconoclast Summit. Citadel Securities and Virtu Financial Inc. both experienced record days of trading volume in April as well, people familiar with the matter said at the time.
