Yen May Climb as US-Japan Tariff Talks Kick Off, Analysts Say

All eyes are on the yen as Japan prepares to hold tariff negotiations with the US this week, with analysts predicting that authorities in Tokyo will allow the currency to strengthen to help narrow the US trade deficit.

As one of the first countries to formally engage in talks, Japan’s chief trade negotiator Ryosei Akazawa will visit the US April 16 to 18 to seek an exemption from the so-called reciprocal tariffs. He will discuss foreign exchange matters if US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent brings it up, Akazawa said last week.
