Authors and publishers proposed a deal to evenly split most of their share of a planned $1.5 billion settlement to resolve their lawsuit against Anthropic PBC over its AI training process.
The class plaintiffs proposed an optional 50-50 split of the roughly $3,000-per-book payout for authors and publishers of commercial, trade, and university-press works and a tailored approach for education works, according to filings submitted Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The proposed 50-50 split would be a non-mandatory default because it’s not possible to have reviewed every contract, the filing said.
