Cuba’s Fidel Castro was known for his marathon speeches. His political heir, Hugo Chávez, used a weekly talk show — Aló Presidente — to anchor his communications strategy in Venezuela. Today, US President Donald Trump deploys a “flood the zone” approach to media saturation.

But few, if any, world leaders attempt a daily hours-long meet-the-press session like Mexico’s Claudia Sheinbaum.

Sheinbaum inherited the choreographed spectacle from her presidential predecessor and political mentor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who pioneered the morning talkfest as a tool to connect with the masses and relentlessly press his agenda.
