News Corp., Dow Jones Sued by Browser Seeking to Avoid IP Claims

Search engine company Brave Software Inc. sued News Corp. and its subsidiaries over the media companies’ claims that basic search functions infringe their copyrighted news articles, seeking a court order that its indexing and summaries are fair use.

Brave filed the lawsuit Tuesday after News Corp. sent a cease-and-desist letter in February demanding compensation for allegedly unauthorized use of copyrighted content, according to the complaint in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
