Oura Expands Wearable Tech Patent Dispute with Samsung in Texas

Ouraring Inc. accused Samsung Electronics America Inc. of patent infringement after the electronics giant challenged several protected methods for wearable technology.

The Galaxy ring and associated application, and Samsung’s Health program use methods similar to Oura’s eight protected technologies used in wearable health monitoring devices, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Oura said the lawsuit “after defending multiple unprovoked attacks on its patent portfolio through post-grant proceedings and to protect its patent rights.”
