Perplexity Blasts Reddit’s ‘Daisy Chain’ Site-Scraping Claims

Reddit Inc.'s copyright pleadings in its data-scraping suit don’t actually accuse Perplexity AI Inc. of breaking any laws, the AI company told a New York federal court.

There’s no secondary liability in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act provision barring hacking into copyrighted materials, and Reddit can’t allege liability for merely buying scraped data, Perplexity said in its motion to dismiss. In addition to the “remarkable” number of steps in the “daisy chain” between Perplexity and alleged misdeeds, Reddit fails to identify a protective measure that qualifies as the kind the law prohibits circumventing, it added.
