Flashcard-making app Quizlet Inc. used a test-prep company’s copyrights and trademarks without permission, ripping off study materials for nursing students, a federal suit said.
Quizlet copies Barkley and Associates Inc.'s study resources for aspiring certified nurse practitioners, “plasters the Quizlet name on them,” and “entices users to visit the Quizlet site instead of Barkley,” according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
Beyond copying the content itself, Quizlet allows its users to upload copyrighted study materials displaying Barkley’s registered trademarks to its website, the filing said.
