REI Hit With Texas Patent Lawsuit Over Bike Chainrings Products

Recreational Equipment Inc., an outdoor gear retailer that does business as REI, allegedly infringed a patent owner’s protected inventions by selling Cannondale bikes and various chainring products.

REI’s products use similar methods for bicycle chain rings with ramps as US Patent Nos. 8,506,436; 10,677,338 and 11,460,099, according to a complaint filed April 12 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Texas-based RampWerks said Washington-based REI sells the products and provides instruction to customers in Texas, which it cited as one of its reasons for its chosen venue to file the allegations.
