President Donald Trump plans to nominate a former US attorney and senior Justice Department official to Montana’s federal trial court.
William Mercer, who was the state’s chief prosecutor during George W. Bush’s presidency, is Trump’s intended pick for a seat on the US District Court for the District of Montana, Trump announced in a Truth Social post.
Mercer, who’s currently a civil litigator with a focus on environmental and health-care issues, also held senior Justice Department positions in the Bush administration, including as acting associate attorney general and principal associate deputy attorney general.
