Parkland Shooter’s Judge Faces Sanctions for Hugging Prosecutors

The judge that oversaw the death penalty sentencing of the gunman who killed 17 people at the Parkland, Fla., Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is facing sanctions from Florida ethics officials.

Judge Elizabeth A. Scherer has agreed with an investigation finding that she violated judicial ethics rules when she removed the shooter’s attorney from counsel table during a sentencing hearing and embraced prosecutors and victims’ families after the death penalty was awarded, according to formal ethics violation charges filed in the Florida Supreme Court Monday. She’ll receive a public reprimand if the court agrees with the deal she signed.
