Microsoft Asks San Francisco Court for $14 Million Tax Refund

Microsoft Corp. is asking a California trial court to order a $14 million tax refund from the city of San Francisco tied to its repatriated earnings in 2019, 2020, and 2021, but the company already lost the first round in court with similar claims for 2018.

In a complaint filed on Tuesday in California Superior Court, San Francisco County, Microsoft said San Francisco improperly imposed its gross receipts tax and homelessness gross receipts tax on foreign dividends and receipts from its controlled foreign corporations for the years at issue.
