Norfolk Southern Ohio Derailment Caused Deaths, Suit Alleges (1)

A lawsuit with more than 700 people over a 2023 toxic train derailment near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border contains what the filing attorneys say are the first wrongful death claims against Norfolk Southern Corp.

The lawsuit filed Friday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court brings claims on behalf of the estates of seven people who lived in or near East Palestine, Ohio, including a week-old baby. It doesn’t go into specifics of how each person died but instead says that they each passed away “from the aftermath of the derailment.”
