Omni Hotels Hit With EEOC Suit Over Religious Bias, Reprisal (1)

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Omni Hotels Management Corp. for discriminating and retaliating against an employee due to his religious beliefs in violation of federal employment law.

Omni Hotels initially granted Donovan Lewis a religious accommodation to observe the Sabbath by not working on Sundays but later revoked it, the complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois says.

When Lewis, who was employed as a bellperson, declined to switch to a night shift that would have decreased his pay and seniority, Omni Hotels demoted him to part-time status, the lawsuit says.
