Sony Music Entertainment Inc. and the University of Southern California resolved a copyright suit alleging the school used hundreds of Sony-owned songs without a license in its sports social media posts.
The case was dismissed without prejudice Thursday after the parties notified the court of their settlement, according to an order filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. Sony sued USC in March 2025, claiming the school’s music videos on Instagram and Tik Tok violated the copyrights of major artists including Beyoncé, Travis Scott, and Michael Jackson.
