Trans Florida Prisoner Class Certified Over Makeup, Clothes (1)

A cohort of transgender inmates in Florida state prisons scored a mixed victory allowing them to bring a class action over access to makeup and clothes, but didn’t receive class status over denial of hormone therapy.

The group of roughly 180 transgender prisoners in Florida Department of Corrections’ male facilities can collectively challenge the state’s new policy removing accommodations for inmates for wearing long hair, makeup, or women’s undergarments, US District Court for the Northern District of Florida Judge Allen C. Winsor ruled Wednesday.
