Italy Plans to Sell Minority Stake in Rail Operator Ferrovie

Italy is preparing to sell a minority stake in rail operator Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane SpA as the government looks to dispose of assets to cut debt.

The move to open Ferrovie’s share capital to investors is part of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s ongoing privatization drive, people familiar with the matter said.

The sale, which is also aimed at easing Ferrovie’s financial requirements, is part of a new strategy drawn up by Chief Executive Officer Stefano Donnarumma, who was appointed earlier this year, the people said.
