Ex-New York Mayor Eric Adams Is Granted Albanian Citizenship

Former New York Mayor Eric Adams has been granted Albanian citizenship, months after visiting the Balkan nation shortly before leaving office.

The move came in a decree signed by Albanian President Bajram Begaj and published in the official gazette. The decree states that citizenship was granted at Adams’ request, and is effective immediately.

Adams visited Tirana, Albania’s capital, in October and met with Prime Minister Edi Rama and other officials. Talks covered tourism, business and technology cooperation, and Adams raised the idea of a direct flight between New York and Albania.
