NYC Plans New Bronx Marine Terminal on Site of Old Jail Barge

A New York City jail barge in the Bronx is set to be removed to make room for a marine terminal, creating a new spot for ships to unload cargo.

The city is planning to build a new terminal in Hunts Point, which will be used for cargo including food, and extend access to the waterfront area. The city’s economic development corporation is seeking requests for proposals to remove the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center barge that’s currently at the site.
