Child safety advocates in California are eyeing a ballot initiative to protect youth from social media harm if their efforts are stymied again this year in the state legislature.

The potential ballot effort is running in parallel with state Sen. Nancy Skinner’s latest attempt to pass legislation that would place usage limits on major tech platforms, such as Meta Platforms Inc. A previous bill (S.B. 680) that would have let the attorney general and public attorneys sue platforms for specific harms and addiction was shelved last year due to questions of whether it would be upheld in court. ...
