Tech companies are already pushing back against a South Carolina law enacted this week that will require them to offer new safety features to protect minors or face financial damages.
H. 3431, signed by Republican Gov. Henry McMaster on Thursday, requires that companies let users disable addictive features like infinite scroll and auto-playing videos, as well as location visibility. It affects online services that do business in South Carolina and are “reasonably likely” to be accessed by minors.
