Mexico Detects First Human Case of Avian Flu A Known as H5N1

Mexico detected the first human case of Avian influenza A, known as H5N1, the health ministry said in a statement.

  • The three-year-old girl is hospitalized in the state of Coahuila in serious condition, according to the statement
    • The girl received oseltamivir of which the ministry has 40,000 treatments in its reserves
  • The health ministry says the risk to public health is low, adding that well-cooked eggs or chicken do not represent any danger
  • There is as yet no evidence of human-to-human transmission of the disease, the ministry said
