NYC Council Proposes Toughest-In-Nation Pay Data Reporting Bill

New York City businesses would have to report detailed pay data for each of their employees accompanied by race, gender, age, and union membership status to the city’s worker protection agency, under a proposed bill.

The legislation (Int. 982-2024) in the New York City Council would create perhaps the most expansive pay data reporting mandate in the nation, though employers would be able to omit employee names and personal identifying information. The proposal was officially introduced Thursday afternoon and referred to committee for review.
