USCIS Plans to Collect Immigrants’ Social Media Information

The Trump administration plans to scrutinize the social media activity of immigrants seeking to enter the US, it said Tuesday.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services, which approves visas and other immigration benefits, is proposing to collect that information, arguing it’s necessary to comply with a White House executive order on protecting the US from terrorism and national security threats.

Members of the public will have 60 days to comment on those plans after a notice is published in the Federal Register Wednesday.
