Wake Up Call: A&O Merger Spurs Dozens of Senior Lawyers to Bolt

  • The massive merger between Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling has spurred the departures of dozens of senior lawyers from both firms, including at least 20 who bolted from A&O’s offices since the combination was announced. Seven departures were from that firm’s “head office” in London, according to data from law firm recruiter Macrae. (The Telegraph)
  • A Latham & Watkins team advised billionaire businessman Mark Cuban in the sale of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks to the families of Miriam Adelson and Sivan and Patrick Dumont, president of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., a casino company. Latham’s deal team was led by New York partner Frank Saviano and Houston partner Nick Dhesi. (Latham & Watkins)
  • Susman Godfrey has been retained by The New York Times Co. as lead outside counsel in a suit the paper filed Wednesday against OpenAI Inc. and Microsoft Corp. over copyright infringement allegations. The firm represented Dominion Voting Systems in its defamation claims against Fox News that ended with a $787 million settlement. (New York Times)
