Four Privacy Enforcement Priorities Emerge Among States

State attorneys general have laid the groundwork for ramped-up privacy enforcement in 2026, putting companies across industries—from data brokers to location data collectors—on notice.

Bolstered by new hires, help from outside counsel, and a desire to fill in perceived gaps left by the federal government’s retreat on enforcement, state regulators rolled out several multi-state partnerships and investigative sweeps and reached out to more businesses about their compliance last year compared to previous years.
