Michigan State Gets Record $401 Million Pledge to Boost Sports

Michigan State University is getting a $401 million commitment, the largest in its history, from an insurance entrepreneur and his wife, mostly to bolster athletics at a time when big-time sports programs are vying to pay top players.

The pledge by Greg Williams and his wife, Dawn, will put “college athletics on notice that Michigan State has the resources to be an industry leader,” the school said in a statement Friday. Williams is co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Acrisure, a financial technology and insurance company headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
