NYC Gets New Housing Rules as Adams Warns They’ll Stall Projects

New York City lawmakers passed several bills to address the city’s housing crisis, while Mayor Eric Adams’ administration and advocacy groups argued that many of the measures will worsen the problem.

In the City Council’s last legislative session before Zohran Mamdani takes office, members on Thursday voted in favor of three proposals setting new requirements for affordable apartments in buildings that receive city funding.

Under one bill, 25% of new affordable housing apartments would have to be two-bedroom units, and 15% would have to include three bedrooms. Another would require that 50% of new housing financed by the city ...
