The Trump administration told the Seventh Circuit that the government is entitled to keep certain immigrants behind bars without a chance at bond, in the second of two arguments before appeals courts involving that issue Tuesday.
The law certainly doesn’t allow bond hearings for noncitizens who present themselves at points of entry, said Deputy Assistant Attorney General Drew Ensign—so providing bond hearings for “aliens that unlawfully barge past our borders” would be a “perverse reward for breaking United States laws.”
