States Challenged by EPA Pesticide Limits for Endangered Species

States are grappling with their obligation to enforce endangered species protections the EPA increasingly requires for pesticides.

The enforcement challenge results from an effort the Environmental Protection Agency, US Department of Agriculture, National Marine Fisheries Service, and Fish and Wildlife Service began in 2022 to better protect endangered species following multiple lawsuits filed by environmental groups. A core requirement is to identify useful protection strategies earlier in the process of registering a pesticide.
