US Coast Guard Seals Icebreaker Deal With Finland’s Rauma Marine

The US Coast Guard and Finland’s Rauma Marine Constructions Oy signed a contract for two icebreakers as part of President Donald Trump’s administration rebuilding its fleet of Arctic vessels.

The parties have not disclosed the order value. A previous estimate by the Finnish government puts its worth at about €1 billion ($1.1 billion).

The deal follows weeks of negotiations between the Coast Guard and the shipbuilder that were kicked off by an October agreement between Trump and his Finnish counterpart Alexander Stubb. It was agreed then that four out of a total of 11 icebreakers will be built ...
