A non-practicing entity alleged ByteDance Ltd. infringed several patents protecting methods for video decoding and wireless communications by incorporating similar technology for streaming and video platforms, including TikTok and CapCut.
ByteDance’s products infringed 10 patents, Sovereign Peak Ventures LLC’s said in a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. ByteDance’s TikTok and Pico Immersive units were also named as defendants.
Sovereign Peak said it offered ByteDance in 2025 the opportunity to discuss licensing the patents.
