California Bill Would Ban Sale of Location, Other Sensitive Data

A California state lawmaker introduced legislation on Tuesday that would ban the sale or sharing of all sensitive personal information, such as immigration status or biometric data, by technology companies, data brokers and other businesses.

Assemblymember Chris Ward (D) is pushing the new measure (AB 1542) along with continuing to push stalled legislation (AB 322) from last year that would prohibit the sale of geolocation data, which also falls under the category of sensitive personal data.
