TikTok Averts Indonesia Shutdown After Sharing Streaming Data

TikTok shared a trove of data about Indonesian users’ online activity with the country’s government over the weekend, handing over potentially sensitive information to avert a license suspension in its biggest Southeast Asian market.

Government officials said that the Chinese-owned social media company, which has more than 100 million users in the country, disclosed everything from web-traffic patterns to suspected online gambling activity. The communications authority said it asked only for data from TikTok, focusing on a sharp escalation in online streaming activity after anti-government protests erupted in late August.
