Virginia’s Top Court Weighs GOP Bid to Block Redistricting

The Virginia Supreme Court heard arguments Monday on Republicans’ bid to block a recent vote approving a new congressional map that could boost Democrats’ seats in the US House following the fall midterm elections.

The court is considering whether the Democrat-led Virginia General Assembly lawfully launched a referendum process last year to redraw political boundaries, following a redistricting push by Republicans in Texas backed by President Donald Trump. Virginia voters approved the measure this month.
