Republicans Press Roberts on Ethics of Anonymous Judge Criticism

Top Republican lawmakers are asking Chief Justice John Roberts to say whether federal judges are violating ethics rules by anonymously sharing concerns with the media about the Supreme Court’s emergency orders.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who lead the Senate and House judiciary committees, on Wednesday asked Roberts to weigh in on the remarks, saying they are “deeply concerned that these public attacks on the Court from sitting federal judges damage the public’s faith and confidence in our judicial system.” They sent the letter to Roberts in his capacity as chair of the Judicial Conference, the ...
