Carlos Ghosn, the former Nissan and Renault chief who once escaped Japan in a box, must stand trial alongside French culture minister Rachida Dati over alleged corruption tied to consultancy fees she received more than a decade ago.

The escalation follows a long-running probe into payments to Dati when she was serving as a lawyer and member of the European Parliament.
