Germany’s federal prosecutor ordered the arrest of five men for allegedly exporting goods worth at least €30 million ($36 million) to Russia in breach of European Union sanctions.
A minimum of 24 Russian arms companies received the goods as part of about 16,000 shipments, the prosecutor’s office said Monday in an emailed statement.
“The arrested suspects are strongly suspected of being members of a criminal organization and of having committed commercial and gang-related violations of the Foreign Trade and Payments Act,” according to the statement.
