Man Found Not Guilty After Killing Wife Loses Insurance Payout

A man who killed his wife but was found not guilty because of mental defects can’t receive the proceeds of her life insurance policy with Prudential Insurance Co. of America, a Wisconsin federal judge ruled.

Wisconsin law blocks someone who unlawfully and intentionally kills another person from receiving property or insurance proceeds stemming from the death. This prohibition can also apply to a person found not guilty because of a mental defect, because a killing can still be “intentional” under these circumstances, Eastern District Judge Pamela Pepper said.
