‘Accidental Americans’ Seek French Court Action on Bank Accounts (Corrected)

A group in France is asking a court to assess whether U.S. tax rules are driving banks to refuse to open bank accounts for individuals who are accidental U.S. citizens.

The Accidental Americans Association filed a complaint with a criminal court in France on July 6 on behalf of about 300 members who claim they are prevented from opening accounts at banks that are wary of running afoul of the U.S.'s foreign account reporting rules, known as FATCA.
