Accountants’ Group Urges Broad Review of Australia’s Tax System

Australia’s government should fund a comprehensive review of the nation’s tax system as part of its upcoming budget, an accountants’ group said.

Previous reviews of Australia’s tax system “represent a fragmented, piecemeal approach to tax reform,” CPA Australia said in a pre-budget submission Tuesday making recommendations for the country’s 2025-26 budget.

A comprehensive review is needed to address structural challenges and enable tax reform that improves productivity, boosts international competitiveness, and drives strong economic growth, the group said.

To provide direction for the review, the government should outline its tax reform priorities in the budget, the group said. ...
