A proposed UK crackdown on tax advisers whose work enables breaches of the tax code would effectively create a government regulator of the industry, raise the cost of tax advice, and harm the economy, top accounting groups said.
His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ draft reforms are too broad and would burden the sector with expensive obligations in cases where no extra action is needed, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales said in submissions released Tuesday.
