Adeyemo Cites Congress, Hiring as Challenges for IRS on $80 Billion

Hiring and receiving sufficient annual appropriations from Congress are two of the biggest challenges the IRS faces at it works to implement its plan for spending the $80 billion in multiyear funds it received in last year’s tax-and-climate law, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said.

In an interview for Bloomberg Tax’s Talking Tax podcast, Adeyemo noted that the multiyear funds are designed to allow the IRS to transform itself while annual funding is used for day-to-day operations—a point the Treasury Department and IRS have made repeatedly during and after the release of the plan earlier this month.
