Agencies Need ‘How to Buy AI’ Guidelines, Former Official Says

Federal agencies need procurement guidelines that specifically outline how to buy products from the rapidly growing, but still nascent, market of artificial intelligence tools, a former White House AI leader said Thursday.

“We need to get busy in a couple of areas,” Lynne Parker, founding director of the White House’s National AI Intelligence Initiative Office, said at NextGov’s Genius Machines 2022 conference. “One is in education and workforce training and another is an approach to procurement.”
